3. Working with other government organisations

Reviewing the NDIS

An NDIS plan and a magnifying glass.

The government wants to review the NDIS to check how well it supports participants.

A thumbs up icon and a thumbs down icon. There is a review symbol beneath.

When the government reviews something, they check to see what:

  • works well
  • can be better.

A Terms of Reference icon showing a document with a tick on it.

The terms of reference is a list of things governments want to focus on.

When governments agree on the terms of reference, we will know how we can support the review by working with the:

Three people standing behind a lectern with the badge NDIA

  • NDIA

An icon of a person in a suit with a government icon next to them. They have a speech bubble with a disability icon inside it.

  • Minister for the NDIS

A group of people with their hands raised together.

  • community.

Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021–2031

An icon of Australia's Disability Strategy, showing a map of Australia with a disability icon inside it.

Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021–2031 is a plan to support people with disability in all areas of their life.

We call it the Strategy.

A document with a thumbs up and a thumbs down on it. There is a speech bubble next to it.

We will give the Department of Social Services (DSS) advice about the Targeted Action Plans in the Strategy.

This includes what we think:

  • will work well
  • needs to change.

The ILC program

An I L C program icon, showing a support icon, an information icon, and a link symbol.

We will also give DSS advice about the Information, Linkages and Capacity Building program.

We also call it the ILC program.

A Grant icon, showing a document with a money symbol on it next to a government icon.

The ILC program gives grants to community organisations that support people with disability.

A grant is money from the government to pay for important work that can help others in the community.

Making sure participants get good supports

A calendar icon with ticks on all the days. There is an approval sticker above and a supports icon nearby.

We will give advice about the challenges participants face when they try to find:

  • good quality supports
  • consistent support.

A research icon next to a supports icon and an approval sticker.

We will make sure the advice uses research and rules about what good quality support is.

Two people shaking hands with an N D I A icon above.

We will work with the NDIA on this advice.

Three people standing behind a panel saying N D I S Commission.

We will also work with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission (the NDIS Commission) on this advice.

A man supporting someone, and a safety icon.

The NDIS Commission:

  • makes sure participants get good quality services
  • keeps participants safe.

How COVID-19 has affected services

A person supporting someone else with a COVID 19 icon above them. There is a find symbol above, and a warning symbol next to them.

We will speak up about how hard it is for participants to find workers to support them because of COVID-19.

We will work with:

Three people standing behind a lectern with the badge NDIA

  • the NDIA

Two people standing in front of a building, with a government icon next to them.

  • other government organisations.

A supports icon. Below is a person holding a piece of paper with a thumbs down icon becoming a thumbs up icon.

The work we do will make services better.

And it will help participants find workers with the right skills.
