Supporting participants to work

Two people looking at an iPad together at work.

People from the NDIA asked the Reference Group for advice on supporting participants to work.

Reference Group members explained it’s important for participants to hear people like them talk about:

A person pointing to themselves and above them is a speech bubble that shows them in a work uniform.

  • the work they do

A person using a computer. Above them is a thought bubble that shows them in a work uniform.

  • how they found work.

A person pointing to themselves and raising their hand. Above them is a thought bubble that shows them in a work uniform.

These stories can support people with disability to:

  • understand what they can do in their own lives
  • start thinking about work.

A person supporting someone. Above them is a thought bubble that shows a tick.

These stories can also support their carers to understand these things.

Members suggested that the NDIA share information people can use to talk about work.

A person wearing green apron and crossing his arms. Next to them is a set of justice scales.

This information should talk about the rights of workers.

A document that shows a set of justice scales.

Rights are rules about how people must treat you:

  • fairly
  • equally.

This information should also include advice about:

  • changing a person’s career
  • growing a person’s career.

Your career is the path you take in the area of work you choose.

The NDIA should share this information with:

A group of participants. 2 of them are raising their hands.

  • participants

2 people shaking hands and above them is a dollar sign.

  • employers – people who hire other people to work for them
