Advice

A person raising their hand to say something, an NDIA Board icon and calendar icon that says 12 months.

In the last 12 months, we gave suggestions and advice to the NDIA Board.

A woman raising her hand with a speech bubble and tick icon.

When we give advice to the NDIA Board they must:

  • listen to us
  • do something about it.

A man pointing to himself and raising his hand. Above him is a speech bubble with an icon of a person supporting another person.

We worked on advice about how to support participants from different backgrounds.

A group of participants.

Participants are people with disability who take part in the NDIS.

This includes supporting:

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags with 3 people underneath it.

  • First Nations peoples

A group of people that are diverse.

  • culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) people.

A group of diverse people from the community. 3 people have thought bubbles above them, each one has a different language in it.

CALD people:

  • come from different countries or backgrounds
  • speak languages other than English.

A person raising their hand with a rainbow flag behind them. Next to them is a plus icon.

This also includes supporting LGBTIQA+ people.

LGBTIQA stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer and questioning, and asexual.

The ‘+’ is for people who are part of the LGBTIQA+ community but don’t talk about themselves using a word from this list.

We also worked on advice about ways to support how a participant acts or behaves.

A man point to himself and raising his hand. Above him is a speech bubble with a person supporting another person.

We worked on advice about making sure participants get support as they get older.

A woman supporting a man with documents. Above them is a thumbs down icon with an arrow pointing to a thumbs up icon.

And we gave advice about how the NDIA can work with people with disability to make the NDIS better.

Input and expertise

We also shared other ideas with:

  • people who work for the NDIA.

A woman thinking. Next to her is a lightbulb.

They do not have to do anything about it.

But it can help them in their work.

A man showing 3 people something on his computer.

We worked with people with disability and the NDIA to share these ideas.

A woman and a man talking with a plan icon above them.

We shared ideas about how to support participants who manage their own plans.

Plan implementation directory icon.

We also shared ideas about the plan implementation directory.

This is a new way for the NDIA to share information about how participants can use their plans.

You can find the plan implementation directory on the NDIS website.
